Our last day in Taiwan was to visit the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. We are artistic people and I especially love visiting creative museums. We had visited the National Palace Museum and Songshan Cultural and Creative park on our previous trips so I searched up on what other creative museum to visit and found this place. The galleries we visited this period held the art creations from “Whispers of the Horizon” which were from the Taipei Biennial. The works were a bit “dark” and “odd”, not paintings but items put together to form a story (which you had to read from little information boards at the side on the wall - in both English and Chinese. However, to my ten year old, she could not appreciate it that much and found them “creepy”. She also did not bother to read the descriptions. We did not mind browsing through these kind of artworks as it was quite fresh to us ( usually we only viewed paintings) but did not understand them as well. Still, it was an interesting experience to visit the art museum and have an insight into Taiwan and international contemporary fine art. Bags had to be deposited in a safe locker and no eating/drinking allowed while browsing. We placed Ximending in Taipei as our last place to stay for Taiwan trip so as to reach the airport easily the next day afternoon. Ximending was also the place for youngsters to get character themed toys and cute merchandise which my girl wanted. We walked through the entire pedestrian streets of Ximending, browsed through all the shops selling cute items, turned some gashapon machines. However, they were either things she had already bought or too expensive and not worth. ( we found more things in taipei underground city mall than here) My girl is crazy over Sanrio characters so I searched up and found this themed Sanrio 7-Eleven store right in Ximending itself. After checking into the hotel in Ximending, we specially walked to this to take a look(took a long while to walk here). However, as she had already bought several Sanrio stuff earlier on in several places, we did not get anything and just browsed around. There was a huge Hello Kitty figure to take pictures with. We also found out that Sanrio merchandises in Taiwan were not cheap at all and costs almost the same as Singapore imports from Japan. We were disappointed on this as we thought we could get it cheaper here in Taiwan.
