Before we head to Jeongbang Waterfall…

Pre-Story: Korean Fried Chicken Lunch

After our Mt. Hallasan hike, we went to the supermarket near our AirBNB accommodation to buy some snacks and juices. We discovered to our surprise that there was a stall selling Korean Fried Chicken! We bought a pack with two different flavours to share and the amount was equivalent to one small spring chicken, many parts. They were delicious!

However, with this hefty lunch and a tiring hike this morning, we started feeling sleepy and hiking a waterfall does not seem to be a good idea. The comfortable beds in the rooms were beckoning us.

“Let’s go. We are here already and you don’t want to regret not visiting at least one waterfall right?” I made an effort to stand up and encouraged the other two slumping comfortably in the chairs.

Jeongbang Waterfall

We arrived at the car park of the Jeongbang Waterfall and walked to the entrance to purchase our tickets. The first thing we did, was to look at the Information Board to see which path we should take. There seemed to be a few other small waterfalls scattered around which required a long walk. Since we wanted to just at least see one, we decided to just go for the main one, the waterfall that flows directly to the sea. We hadn’t seen this type before.

The Walk to the Waterfall

Immediately, we had to climb down a flight of stairs. We had no problem with that but coming up later will be a pain.

As we walked to the splashing Jeongbang Waterfall, there was a nice view of the sea with some tankers in the far distance. Dar loves to look at ships so we stopped for a while for him to watch them.

Thunderous Sounds

Reaching there, before we even came in full view of the Jeongbang Waterfall, we started hearing the thunderous sounds and felt some cool droplets.

Just standing a distance away, we could already feel the droplets splashing on us. I had to try to take pictures of the waterfall without getting my camera lens wet. I always have this nice feeling about waterfalls. It feels calming looking at it, spilling tons of water down with roaring sounds. While other waterfalls usually have a tranquil pool surrounding it with land, this Jeongbang Waterfall had only a boundary of rocks separating it from the ocean. As it was in summer, many tourists were at the rocky area near the ocean, barefooted and playing with the water.

We decided to move further down the rocks to be as close to the ocean as possible. Our hiking shoes were quite useful as we navigated the rocks. Vin carried Ling while Dar tried to walk through the uneven rocks on his own, sometimes, tripping a little.

Finally, we arrived at a small pool near the last boundary of huge rocks and stopped. Many adults and children were playing in the water so I was curious whether the water was warm or cold. Dar squatted down to touch the water and exclaimed that it was icy cold

We rested on a rock and took some pictures. Since we were not prepared to play with the water, we sat there observing the thunderous waves crashing against the rocks and heard the sounds of the waterfall behind us. It was a relaxing moment.

[ SUMMARY ]

Travel Period:30 May – 5 June 2017 (Tues – Mon)

7 DAYS 6 NIGHTS IN SEOUL/JEJU ISLAND | 6th Day of the Trip – 3rd Day on Jeju Island

Total Time We Spent for Tour : 30 mins

JEONGBANG WATERFALL : 4/5

Great:  We did not walk the entire area of the waterfalls but it was nice to spend a little afternoon time there, looking at a natural landscape. If we had more energy or time, we would have hiked to the rest of the waterfalls too.

Tip: Do bring along some clothes and towel, so you could take off your shoes and have fun in the pool. We didn’t thought of doing this.

Con: As with all natural places, physical ability is needed. If you have bad legs, you can forget about visiting, which would be a pity.
