Stepping out from the taxi with the intention of a nice stroll at ‘The Bund’ in Shanghai, we were slapped with the cold. Well, I had expected the weather to be cold but didn’t expect it to be so cold!

It was around 6.59pm then and checking the temperature on the weather app, it was 12 degrees Celsius! From 8 to 10pm, it would further drop to 10 and then, 8 degrees Celsius! Oh no, both Vin and Dar wasn’t wearing their heat-tech layer, would they be able to stand it?

However, we had no choice then but to brave the windy, cold weather as we headed up to the pedestrian walkway. We were here at the Shanghai Bund for the city skyline and historical buildings, we couldn’t miss this!

HISTORICAL INFORMATION – WHY VISIT Bund外滩 ?

The Bund in Shanghai has dozens of historical buildings, lining the Huangpu River, that once housed numerous banks and trading houses from foreign countries. It was initially a British settlement but became an international settlement for British and American. The Bund houses 52 buildings of various architectural styles and was a major financial center of East Asia. Source from Wikipedia.

Fortunately, we weren’t disappointed. The skyline of Shanghai was indeed beautiful at night!

Ling, the active toddler, was as usual very excited about any walks. She seemed to be comfortable in the cold, probably because she was wearing four layers – a waterproof coat over a down layer jacket, long sleeve thick shirt and a heat-tech layer.

Dar loves to look at and explore skyscrapers. That was one reason why we visited Shanghai. He had been wanting to visit Shanghai Tower for a long time. Thus, he was really happy that he could see it from afar.

Dar’s Journal: After Yuyuan Garden, our next destination on our itinerary was the Bund, which was along the river. I could see prominent landmarks of Shanghai, including my beloved Shanghai Tower, from there. As we walked, I was amused to see a massive ferry which looked like a pirate ship!

Dar’s Art Travel Journal – The Bund

As mentioned in my Yuyuan Garden post, I thought of letting Dar learn and note down what we saw in our China trip. I inserted these acid-free cards into his travel album after we came back. As we strolled along, I remembered it and took out one card for him to draw the Shanghai Skyscrapers. (I would be showing the rest of his drawings in upcoming posts too)

Stroll Along The Bund’s Historical Buildings

Finally after staying at the area for about 20 minutes, we started walking the entire stretch of the pedestrian path by the river, with the aim to cross over to Nanjing Road East for sight-seeing and dinner. By this time, our late snack of Shanghai Xiao Long Bao had dissolved to nothingness (probably to help us generate heat). We were really in need of dinner.

As we walked, we admired the nice architecture of the buildings to our left, feeling as if we were in Europe once again.

However, it would be a while before we could reach a restaurant along Nanjing East Road, which we had read good reviews about.
