We toured South Korea Jeju Island from 5 to 9 June 2023 (Summer) for 4 days 4 nights with 2 children (14 yrs old & 7 yrs old). Here is a summary of our Jeju Island Itinerary. The Airline we took was Scoot Airlines and the flight hours was about 6 hours. This was a short 4 days trip as I was saving days for a longer year-end trip (but did not happen that year).

Travelling with a 7 yr-old and a 14-yr-old in Jeju Island
7 year old – This was her second time to Jeju Island but she could not remember our experiences as she was just barely three years old then. For this trip, she loved the homestay and was energetic to explore all the nature places, even climbing up a mountain. She loved feeding the fishes in Spirited Garden, cats in the maze park and the ponies, horses in the Eco Land Theme Park.
14 year old – We saw lots of transportation during this trip in the Aerospace museum and took a railway train and a submarine ride. Therefore, his love for transportation was satisfied. He still enjoys exploring nature places with us.

Rental Car
We rented a car from Lotte Rent-A-Car as usual to drive ourselves around. It is very inconvenient to travel to different places on Jeju Island without a booked driver or rental car. A rental car would allow us to place our belongings safely, for my girl to eat some snacks in the car and we could stop at each place for as long as we like without worrying if the driver was waiting for us. Read our Previous Post on “Jeju Driving Experiences”.

Exploring in Cold Weather – Clothing Needs
It was cool in Jeju despite it being in June and supposedly the start of summer.
My girl kept complaining she was cold even though the temperature was around 22-23 degrees Celsius which we deemed as “air-conditioner temperature”. There were also strong winds at night which further decreased the temperature we felt. We were all alright with just a thin jacket over our short sleeves.
For her, I had prepared only a normal summer jacket. She wore it over a t-shirt and thin leggings which was not enough for her. She had to wear another layer of jacket, making it three layers and still complained of the cold. I felt that it might be due to her leggings (we all wore thick pants) as usually we would feel cold due to not enough warmth around the legs area.
Swim in Cold Beach?
Before going Jeju, I thought that as it was June and summer time, it was time for beach activities. Therefore, I specially packed our swimming wear and brought along. The beach was also crowded with many South Koreans enjoying the nice beach. However, as time passed, we began to feel cold and with a check of temperature, I realised we were walking in 22 degrees Celsius water! (We often set our air-conditioner temperature to 23-25 degrees Celsius )
To the locals, that was the highest temperature they could have to enjoy a swim. They did not seem to feel cold at all. My 7-year-old could not take it, especially with some cold wind blowing at her thin swimwear and soon retreated to the mat with a towel wrapped around her. ( alternatively, try thermal swimwear for the kids). Hyeopjae Beach was very nice with the clearest water and the softest sand.

Food
We enjoyed all the food we tried in Jeju as we had specially checked out food reviews beforehand. Some meals were impromptu such as buying Korean Fried Chicken takeaway as dinner on our first day there and finding a nice Chinese food restaurant for on our last night in Jeju City, near our hotel.

Lunch at the Jeju Aerospace Museum was also a great find as it was affordable and the selection was suitable for kids who were not able to take spicy food.

It was easy for us to get drinks or snacks from a nearby convenience store at a junction each night before we return to our homestay.
Shopping and Souvenirs
We enjoyed the Jeju snacks we bought the first time we were here in 2017. Therefore, for this trip in 2023, we made sure we went back to the same stall and bought some again. The snacks on in Seogwipo Olle Market were reasonable and packed nicely which would make great gifts for friends.
